The hotel
Half a century by the lake.
The Grand Karavia has received guests since 1974, in Quartier Golf, the residential district of Lubumbashi, the old copper capital of Katanga. It stands in a large garden that runs down to the shore of a lake, with the city's eighteen-hole golf course about five hundred metres away on foot. Breakfast is served on a terrace over the water, and the outdoor pool and its bar sit in the garden.
In 2016 Accor signed an agreement with African Equities to run it, and the hotel took the Pullman name, the brand's second address in the Congo after the Grand Hôtel in Kinshasa. Pullman pitches it to business travellers and holidaymakers alike, with four meeting rooms, tennis courts and a pool in the garden. The rooms run from Classic doubles to suites of about seventy square metres, all air-conditioned, in a hotel where nobody smokes indoors.
