The hotel
Half a century of state occasions.
The Grand Hôtel de Kinshasa opened in 1971, in the Mobutu years, and for decades it was where the city held its political, business and diplomatic gatherings. It stands on Avenue Batetela above the river, about twenty minutes' walk from the Palais de la Nation. In 2011 it passed to Grands Hôtels du Congo, owned half by the Congolese state and half by African Hospitality of Luxembourg. Accor took over the management in October 2014.
The historic wing was renovated from top to bottom and reopened as Pullman's first hotel in the DRC, and its fifth in Africa, with the original architecture kept. Another building, La Tour, was inaugurated after its own renovation in early 2026. With 369 rooms and suites, Forbes Afrique counts it as the largest hotel in the country, and its biggest event room seats 650.
