The hotel
An old hotel, rebuilt.
The Zarafshan hotel had stood for more than twenty years, and empty for many of them, when the authorities offered it for sale in January 2018 at a nominal price, on condition that the buyer invest in it. Devel Eco Group took on the reconstruction and spent about $11 million. The regional administration rated the result four stars, with 148 rooms for up to 296 guests.
The hotel reopened as Sahid Zarafshon on 9 March 2020, managed by the Indonesian group Sahid Hotels & Resorts under an agreement signed in Jakarta the previous November. Indonesia's ambassador to Uzbekistan attended the opening. It sits on Muhammad Iqbol Street, outside the old town and a short drive from the monuments. Inside are six restaurants, a winter garden, a night club and three pools, one of them for children.
