The hotel
In the new town, by the old.
Grand Bukhara stands on Navoi Street in the administrative centre of the city, the newer Bukhara outside the old walls. It has 148 rooms, a restaurant for two hundred and a lobby bar for eighty. Listings now give its address as Ibrohim Muminov Street 8. Wyndham Bukhara is its near neighbour, about a hundred metres away. Rooms run from singles to apartments of four rooms.
Location is the reason to stay. Lyabi-Hauz, the pool square at the heart of the old town, is about five minutes away on foot, and from there the trading domes and the Kalyan minaret are close. From the upper terrace of the hotel you see the madrasas, the blue domes and the minarets laid out across the roofs, which is the best reason to go up before dinner.
