The city
Beer gardens, boulevards and the mountains.
King Maximilian II built a hotel in 1858 on the boulevard that carries his name, and the old town with the Frauenkirche and Marienplatz lies a few streets away. Schwabing and the English Garden stretch north from there, and the mountains show on clear days.
The beer gardens open in spring, June to August are the warmest and sunniest months, and the Oktoberfest begins in September. Twenty-four MICHELIN stars are shared among fifteen restaurants in the city, two of them with three.
Arriving
Thirty kilometres north, in the Erdinger Moos.
Munich Airport opened in 1992 about 30 km north of the city, replacing Riem. In its busiest years it has handled up to 48 million passengers.
