The hotel

A piano bar on the Victorian promenade.

The Empress went up at the end of the nineteenth century on Central Promenade, the long Victorian seafront of Douglas. It stands raised and set back from the road, and the conservatory looks out over the promenade to Douglas Bay. The building has since been extensively upgraded inside, and the bedrooms newly refurbished. The hotel has three rooms for meetings and events, and the Brasserie has been refurbished too.

Evenings centre on the Piano Bar. A resident pianist plays every Saturday, and on up to three more nights a week in summer, and the bars are open to people who are not staying. Weddings and dinner dances fill the Prince Albert Suite, which holds about 180. The smaller Connaught Suite, next to reception, takes about forty for private dinners. The ferry terminal is about 700 metres along the promenade.

  • The Piano Bar Live piano on Saturdays all year, and on up to three other nights a week in summer.
  • The Conservatory A glass room raised above the promenade, looking straight out to sea.
  • Afternoon tea A deluxe afternoon tea is served, and a Sunday lunch in the Brasserie.
