The hotel
A small house in old Antigua.
Posada del Ángel is a former colonial house on a calm street in the old town, under the volcano that stands over Antigua. The city all but stopped growing after the earthquake of 1773 ended its two centuries as the colonial capital, and the house keeps that mood: ochre walls, a terracotta patio, an open-air sitting room and a richly decorated dining room.
It was among the first small boutique hotels in Antigua, and it has kept to seven rooms. A full renovation in 2007 redid the suites and bathrooms, and that year the Andrew Harper Hideaway Report gave it an award. Bill and Hillary Clinton have stayed. The MICHELIN Guide gave it one Key in its 2026 selection for Guatemala and Central America.
- Wood fires Most rooms have a wood-burning fireplace, welcome on cool highland evenings. The Rose Suite has a second one in the bathroom.
- The lap pool A long pool in the courtyard, heated by solar panels and shaded by tropical plants.
- On the roof A terrace on top of the house, open to the sky and the volcano.
