The hotel

On the hill at the edge of town.

Alto Calafate stands on the slope of Cerro Calafate where the road from the airport enters town. From the hill the view runs over the rooftops of El Calafate to Lago Argentino and the Patagonian steppe beyond. The hotel stays open all year, and a shuttle runs down to the centre every hour. Depending on the side, rooms look out over the lake or back up towards Cerro Calafate.

With 103 rooms it is one of the larger hotels in El Calafate, and its conference rooms are the biggest in town. Most guests come for the glaciers, and the excursions to Perito Moreno and across the lake leave from El Calafate. Evenings are spent in the spa, with two heated pools set in the gardens, or over Patagonian lamb at Barlovento.

  • Heated pools Two heated pools among the gardens, one 18 metres long for swimming and one with a waterfall for families.
  • Spa & Health Club Saunas, a Scottish shower, two massage rooms and a gym.
  • Barlovento Regional and international cooking, Patagonian lamb and regional wines, served behind large windows.
