The hotel
Pool villas on Choeng Mon.
SALA runs two resorts on Samui, and this one stands on Choeng Mon, the curved beach on the island's north-eastern corner. Chaweng and the Fisherman's Village at Bo Phut are both about fifteen minutes away by car, the airport ten. The style is contemporary Thai: light colours, teak floors and bathrooms half indoors, half out, each with a rain shower.
Of the sixty-nine rooms, fifty-three are villas with a private pool and a sun deck, and in the larger suites the pools are long enough to swim. The other sixteen are Deluxe Balcony rooms with wide verandas. On the beach there are two more pools, one for families and one for adults only. The MICHELIN Guide gives the resort one Key.

Flying to Koh Samui.
Samui Airport is about ten minutes away by car. Private jets land at Samui too, with parking and permits arranged ahead; Bangkok Don Mueang, an hour's flight away, is the alternative with a private terminal.
