The hotel
A cove of its own on Lamai Bay.
Banyan Tree opened on Samui in July 2010, the group's third resort in Thailand. It took a steep hillside on the east coast, at Maret, above a private cove on Lamai Bay. Lamai and Chaweng, the busy beaches, are a short drive away, and the resort keeps its own stretch of sand at the foot of the slope. It also brought the island its first hydrotherapy spa, The Rainforest.
The villas climb the hill in rows, every one with a private pool, a garden and a view of the water; the higher ones look straight out over the bay. Inside there are rain showers, dark wood and sliding glass walls. Electric buggies carry guests up and down, and The Edge and Saffron look out from the cliff. In 2026 the MICHELIN Guide gave the resort two Keys.
- The Rainforest The first hydrotherapy spa on Samui, with nine hydrothermal experiences from rain walks to ice and steam, before a treatment at Banyan Tree Spa.
- Saffron Thai cooking on the hillside, served with traditional dance.
- Destination Dining A private dinner of several courses at a high point on the estate, set up for one table.
