The hotel

Mud, mineral water and Calistoga.

Solage opened on 12 July 2007 in Calistoga, the northernmost town in the Napa Valley, with 89 studios. The architect Howard Backen designed its cottage-style buildings, and Dowling Kimm Studios of San Francisco did the rooms and suites. It is part of the Auberge Collection, and now has a hundred studios and suites on the Silverado Trail, with the Mayacamas Mountains in view.

Spa Solage opened with the resort and covers 20,000 square feet, with fourteen treatment rooms at the start. Its bathhouse runs a circuit of thermal pools from cool to warm. The signature Mudslide uses volcanic ash mud and the resort's own geothermal mineral water. Outside, the main pool runs 130 feet, bikes are free, and downtown Calistoga is a short ride away.

  • Spa Solage A bathhouse circuit of thermal pools, mud treatments with local volcanic ash, and fitness and yoga classes.
  • Two pools A main pool 130 feet long, lined with cabanas, and a separate family pool.
  • On two wheels Free bicycles for the ride into Calistoga, and vintner-led cycling outings among the vines.

Getting there

Flying to Napa.

San Francisco International is about two hours away by car, our estimate, and Oakland and Sacramento are a little closer. Private jets can land at Napa County Airport, about 40 minutes south by our estimate; there is no customs there, so flights from abroad clear first at an airport of entry such as San Francisco or Oakland.
