The hotel
A vintners' club in the woods.
Meadowood began in 1961 as a private club for the winemakers of the valley and their friends. In 1979 the vintner H. William Harlan and his family bought it and turned it into a hotel as well as a club. The estate covers 250 acres on the edge of St. Helena, with a short golf course, croquet lawns, tennis courts and a hiking trail.
In September 2020 the Glass Fire swept through. More than half the cottages and suites burned, and so did The Restaurant at Meadowood, then a three-star kitchen. The resort reopened with fewer rooms. Forum, the new restaurant, cooks from Meadowood Farm and growers nearby, and in 2024 the MICHELIN Guide gave the resort three Keys, which it has kept every year since.
- The spa Designed by Howard Backen, with separate Garden Lounges for men and women, each with a plunge pool, a steam room and a sauna.
- Wine Center Classes and tastings led by the sommelier and author Kelli White.
- The grounds Three pools, five tennis courts, a short golf course, croquet lawns and a hiking trail.
