The hotel
Portman's fan on Marina Bay.
The hotel opened in 1987 as The Oriental Singapore, part of Marina Centre, next to the Marina Square mall. The American architect John Portman designed it around a tall atrium, with the idea of a theatre in mind, and gave the outside the shape of a fan, a reference to the group's emblem. The tower rises 24 floors, and the group still owns it with Marina Centre Holdings.
A first renovation came in 2004. A second, in 2023, took six months, with DESIGNWILKES redoing the rooms. Those facing the bay took batik patterns and cool colours, the sea-view rooms warmer tones, and the city side botanical prints. Orchids, the national flower, hang in crystal spheres over the lobby lounge. The MICHELIN Guide named the hotel to its first Singapore Keys in 2025.
- The fifth floor An outdoor pool and an open-air wellness terrace, beside a spa whose treatments draw on traditional Chinese therapies.
- HAUS 65 The club lounge, with programmes planned with Mandala Club and some of the best views in the hotel.
- BAY@5 One of three bars, for an evening drink looking over Marina Bay.
