The hotel
Mizner's resort, a hundred years on.
Addison Mizner, the architect best known for Florida's Mediterranean Revival style, opened the Ritz-Carlton Cloister Inn in Boca Raton in 1926. A century later The Boca Raton covers about 200 acres of waterfront and runs five hotels: the Cloister, the Beach Club, the Yacht Club, the Bungalows and the Tower. The resort marks its hundredth year in 2026, with more than a thousand rooms across its buildings.
In 2022 the Tower reopened after a 65 million dollar refit by Rockwell Group of New York, who also worked on the rest of the resort, taking away later additions to bring back Mizner's design. Rooms have bleached wood furniture and built-in window seats, and some look out to the ocean. Two robot butlers deliver snacks to children, named Johnnie and Ethel after Mizner's pet monkeys.
