The hotel
A beach club by the runway.
Bujumbura sits at the northern tip of Lake Tanganyika, and the Club du Lac takes the shore west of the city on the Chaussée d'Uvira, the road that leads on towards Congo. Listings date the buildings to 1986. The rooms, suites and apartments are spread over low blocks of two floors in gardens that run down to the water, a few minutes from both the airport and the city centre.
The plan is that of a resort. A private beach with cabanas, two outdoor pools and a pool for children face the lake, with a beach bar between them. Indoors there is a spa with a sauna, a fitness room and a tennis court outside, and meeting rooms named after the trees in the garden. Across the lake, the hills of the Congo shore close the view.
