The hotel
A castle by the Maas, rebuilt.
The heart of the estate is Kasteel Oost, a castle that grew from a medieval residential tower and was extended from 1548 onwards. From 1941 it was home to an artists' colony led by Teun Roosenburg, and in 1967 it was listed as a national monument. In the 1930s it had served as a youth hostel. Michel Maes later bought it and restored it to its appearance before 1848, finishing the tower in 2022.
The conversion into a hotel followed in 2024. Rooms are split between three buildings: the Château, the former coach house called the Remise, and the newer Carré, built of local materials. The style runs to natural stone walls, exposed beams and earthy colours. The old farmhouse holds a restaurant, and the wine bar, César, fills the castle's former living room.
- Create by Guido Braeken Two MICHELIN stars and modern French cooking, open Wednesday to Saturday, with a five-course brunch on Sundays.
- Wine César for a glass in the castle, and Atelier du Vin, a cellar used for tastings and private dinners.
- Cooking Atelier du Terroir is a cooking studio and private dining room, with classes led by the hotel's chefs.
