The hotel
An old address under a new name.
The building was the Kigali InterContinental until Serena Hotels, the East African group, took over its running in early 2007. A long refurbishment followed, adding rooms, a spa and conference halls, and it reopened in 2008 as the Kigali Serena. It stands on a tree-lined avenue, the Boulevard de la Révolution, about fifteen minutes on foot from the middle of town.
Its meeting rooms have made it a fixture of official Kigali. The ballroom seats 800 and the auditorium 500, there is an international press centre, and the hotel has hosted the World Economic Forum and an Interpol summit. Landscaped gardens surround the pool, next to the spa.
- Maisha Spa & Health Club A Moroccan-style spa with a sauna, a steam room and a juice bar, and a gym with classes from yoga to kickboxing.
- The pool An 18-metre pool in landscaped gardens, with a sundeck and a plunge pool beside it.
- Sunday at Sokoni An East African curry lunch by the pool, followed by live jazz from three in the afternoon.
