The hotel

The first new hotel in twenty years.

Le Barthélemy opened on 28 October 2016, the first hotel built from scratch on St Barth in twenty years. It sits on the crescent of sand at Grand Cul-de-Sac, a shallow lagoon on the island's north-east coast that lies inside the island's nature reserve. Sybille de Margerie designed the interiors, with rooms looking over the garden, the pond or straight out to sea.

Less than a year later, Hurricane Irma struck the island in September 2017. The hotel rebuilt and reopened on the same date two years after its first opening, in October 2018, adding two oceanfront villas above the main building, each with six bedrooms, and a new beach restaurant. The hotel still closes its main restaurant for the summer months, from mid-June to October. The MICHELIN Guide gave it two Keys in 2025 and kept them in 2026.

  • On the lagoon Kayaks, paddleboards and snorkelling gear are included in the stay, for paddling out across the lagoon of Grand Cul-de-Sac.
  • Le Spa La Mer treatments, a hammam, a sauna and sound baths, with the gym open around the clock.
  • Four Hands A series of dinners through the year in which the hotel's executive chef cooks alongside a guest chef from off the island.

From there to Grand Cul-de-Sac is around fifteen minutes by car, our estimate. Private jets land at Princess Juliana on St Maarten, where a chartered propeller aircraft or a helicopter can cover the last stretch.
