The hotel
Ferragamo by the bridge.
Salvatore Ferragamo founded his shoe house in Florence in 1927. In 1995 his family went into hotels with Lungarno Alberghi, renamed the Lungarno Collection in 2011, and on 5 May 2014 it opened Portrait Firenze on the north bank of the Arno, a few steps from the Ponte Vecchio. Hotel Lungarno, its older sister, stands on the other side of the river, and Portrait is the newest of the family's Florence hotels.
The Florentine architect Michele Bönan designed it around the 1950s, when Made in Italy took shape in Florence. Photographs of the city from those years hang in the suites and halls, alongside Ferragamo clients such as Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly. Furniture is vintage in style, the bathrooms are Carrara marble, and there is no reception desk: guests are met with a drink in a sitting room.
- The Ponte Vecchio outside Many suites have balconies over the Arno, and the best look straight at the bridge.
- A kitchen in every suite A hidden kitchenette with a coffee machine, hob and dishwasher, so a week here can feel like a flat of your own.
- Before you arrive A form sent ahead lets you choose pillows and linen and the music for your room.
