The hotel
A palazzo and its garden.
Bartolomeo Scala, chancellor of the Florentine Republic, built the Palazzo della Gherardesca in 1473. A Medici cardinal lived here later, then the Della Gherardesca family, who gave it their name. Behind it lies one of the largest private gardens in Florence, once a botanic garden and long closed to the public. Next door, Palazzo del Nero once belonged to the Wool Guild.
Four Seasons opened the hotel in June 2008 with the palazzo's frescoed ceilings kept. Eighty-five rooms are in the Gherardesca and thirty-six in Palazzo del Nero, which has its own reception. A small frescoed chapel off the lobby can be booked for dinner. The hotel ranks No. 12 in The World's 50 Best Hotels 2026.
- The garden A park of 4.5 hectares with paths for walking and running, a few minutes from the Duomo.
- Pool and spa An outdoor pool open in summer, a jacuzzi all year, a spa of ten treatment rooms and a gym in its own building.
- Il Palagio One MICHELIN star for Italian cooking under executive chef Paolo Lavezzini, with tables outside in season.
