The hotel
Water, glass and nine acres.
The Oberoi, Gurgaon opened in April 2011, the group's first new city hotel in India for almost twenty years. It sits on nine acres in Udyog Vihar, close to the offices of Cyber City. RSP designed it, and the lobby and restaurants sit inside a glass and silver box. A green wall of some three thousand plants runs along one side.
Water holds the place together. A moat of reflecting pools surrounds the building, lit by thousands of candles at night, and the all-day restaurant has teak decks out over it. Three suites have full-length outdoor pools of their own. Inside, rooms have teak panels and mother-of-pearl inlay, and a gallery shows contemporary Indian art. The MICHELIN Guide gives it one Key.
