The hotel
A palace built for the embassy quarter.
The Leela Palace opened in 2011 on about three acres at the corner of Africa Avenue and Vinay Marg, in the Diplomatic Enclave. The architect John Gerondelis drew on Edwin Lutyens and on the palaces of North India, so the building reads as classical from the street, with a lobby that climbs several storeys inside. Rashtrapati Bhavan and the Secretariat are a short drive away.
Indian artists made much of what fills it: paintings, hand-carved pieces, brass. The same year it opened, it made the Condé Nast Traveler Hot List, and in 2026 the magazine gave it its first Triple Crown, for a hotel on the Hot List, the Gold List and the Readers' Choice list. The MICHELIN Guide gives it two Keys, and its inspectors single out the service as well as the size of the rooms.
- Pool on the roof A temperature-controlled pool on the eleventh floor, open to the sky, with the city spread out below.
- Room to spread out Rooms begin at about 51 square metres. The MICHELIN inspectors count them among the largest in Delhi.
- Le Cirque The New York restaurant's first outpost in Asia, high up on the tenth floor, cooking Franco-Italian.
