The hotel
Forty-odd years on Mansingh Road.
The Taj Mahal opened on Mansingh Road in 1978, in the planned garden city of Lutyens' Delhi, home to senior officials, chief executives and the very rich. The MICHELIN Guide notes that the planting keeps the district several degrees cooler than the rest of the capital. Behind its ivory front the hotel has long been a meeting place for diplomats and visiting heads of state.
A recent renovation reworked the rooms, the Taj Club Lounge, Machan and House of Ming, and added twenty-seven residences with kitchens and butlers. The Chambers, a members' business club inside the hotel, has run for more than forty years. Guests can play tennis on site and have access to the Delhi Golf Club. Rick's, the bar, stays open until after midnight.
- Varq Modern Indian cooking: Ganderi kebab, Varqui crab and live music in the evening.
- House of Ming Cantonese, Sichuan and Hunan dishes, Peking duck among them, in a dining room reworked in the renovation.
- Golf and tennis Tennis courts in the hotel and access to the Delhi Golf Club for guests.
