The hotel
Courtyards by the sea.
Estrella del Mar opened in September 2008 in Elviria, east of Marbella, as part of the Spanish group Vincci Hoteles. Its architects kept the building low and long, in tiled brick, and borrowed from Islamic architecture: inner courtyards, shaded corridors and small corners to sit in. Inside, art deco furniture meets earth colours and Middle Eastern and Indian pieces.
Around the hotel lie fifteen thousand square metres of gardens and four outdoor pools, one of them heated. The beach club stands on the sand about a hundred metres from the main entrance. Golfers have more than forty courses within half an hour, and the centre of Marbella is seven kilometres away.
