The hotel

A village built round a Roman bridge.

The Seville developer Tulio Pino built Puente Romano in 1976 and 1977 as apartments, laid out like an Andalusian village. In 1979 Mouaffak Al Midani bought the units still unsold and turned the complex into a hotel. David Shamoon took it over in 1995, together with the Marbella Club. The name comes from a small stone bridge in the grounds, said to date from the first century AD, on the Roman road from Cádiz to Cartagena.

The village is still the plan: twenty-seven white buildings of three storeys, linked by paths through gardens planted with some four hundred species. Over the years the estate has added a tennis club, the Six Senses Spa, two beach clubs and La Plaza, where restaurants and a nightclub gather around a square.

  • The tennis club Clay courts that have hosted international tournaments and Davis Cup training, with padel alongside.
  • Two beach clubs Chiringuito grills fish in a Josper oven on the sand; Chambao is a smaller beach and pool club.
  • Six Senses Spa Treatments with Andalusian olive oil, sea salt and mountain herbs, named Europe's Best Resort Spa at the 2023 World Spa Awards.
