The hotel
A palace that doubles as a gallery.
Ricardo Arranz's Grupo Villa Padierna opened the hotel in 2003, building it to look like a Tuscan villa outside, with interiors closer to an English country house. Ritz-Carlton ran it from 2006 to 2011. In 2019 Minor Hotels took it over, and it became the first Anantara in Spain. More than 1,200 original works of art hang through the building, which is why it calls itself a museum hotel.
The resort sits among the Flamingos, Alferini and Tramores golf courses, in the hills between Marbella, Benahavís and Estepona. A Roman-style amphitheatre seats 300 for opera and candlelit concerts. Michelle Obama stayed in 2010, and one of the villas now carries her name. Down on the shore, the By The Sea Beach Club cooks paella and espetos. In high season the resort runs ten restaurant concepts in all.
- Three courses Flamingos, Alferini and Tramores surround the resort, from the gentlest round for new golfers to the hardest of the three.
- The spa About 2,000 square metres built around Roman baths, with steam, sauna, a cold plunge and a relaxation room. Under-16s are not admitted.
- The amphitheatre A Roman-style theatre for 300 people, used for opera and concerts by candlelight.
