The hotel
Opened by Sheikh Zayed and the Queen.
Le Méridien Abu Dhabi opened in 1979, and Marriott records that Sheikh Zayed and Queen Elizabeth II inaugurated it together. The district was then known as the Tourist Club Area; today it is Al Zahiyah, though the old name is still in use. The hotel has now been open for more than forty-five years. Its rooms look out over the sea or the city, and it holds the Green Key eco-label for its environmental work.
Abu Dhabi Mall is next door, and Al Maryah Island with The Galleria and the Abu Dhabi Global Market lies just across the water. The hotel keeps its resort layout: more than twenty thousand square metres of planted gardens around the pool, a children's pool, a spa with a Moroccan hammam, and two hundred metres of private beach. Al Finjan in the lobby doubles as a coworking space.
- The beach Two hundred metres of private sand in the city centre, with the Moon Deck bar by the pool.
- The gardens More than two hectares of planting around the pools, in the middle of the city.
- Captain's Arms A pub with sport on the screens, pool tables and table football.
