The hotel
Eighteen degrees off true.
Capital Gate was designed by RMJM for the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre and completed in 2011. It leans eighteen degrees to the west, and in June 2010, once the outer shell was finished, Guinness World Records named it the farthest manmade leaning building. The hotel fills floors 18 to 33, above offices, so every room starts high above the street and its windows run from floor to ceiling.
Hyatt opened it as the first Andaz in the Middle East in November 2018. The interiors work in four local motifs: mashrabiya screens, Arabic calligraphy, Al Sadu weaving and the date palm. The ground floor is a permanent gallery, and every guest room has a piece by a local artist on its walls. The spa, gym and pool share the nineteenth floor.
- The pool deck An outdoor pool and whirlpool on the nineteenth floor, suspended from the tower beside Rayana Spa.
- Art from the ground up A gallery at street level and a work by a local artist in each room.
- Next to ADNEC The exhibition centre is at the foot of the tower, which suits anyone in town for a show or a conference.
