The hotel
French manners on Wallich Street.
The hotel opened in October 2017 as AccorHotels' 800th hotel in Asia Pacific. It sits on Wallich Street, where it meets Peck Seah Street beside Guoco Tower, in Tanjong Pagar, an old neighbourhood of shophouses at the edge of Chinatown that is now ringed by office towers. Tanjong Pagar MRT station is directly beneath it, so the rest of the city is a few stops away.
Sofitel set out to mix Singapore's heritage with French style. The ballroom carries the name of Nathaniel Wallich, the botanist remembered as a founding father of the Singapore Botanic Gardens, and the bar is called 1864. Racines, the main restaurant, cooks French and Chinese dishes from four open kitchens. All 223 rooms and suites have floor-to-ceiling windows over the city or the shophouse roofs.
- The pool deck A 30-metre infinity pool, mostly in the shade, with a Jacuzzi, a lawn with cabanas and La Vague Bleue by Pommery serving Champagne alongside.
