The hotel
The first Shangri-La.
The hotel opened on Orange Grove Road on 23 April 1971, and it grew in stages. The Tower Wing came first, the Garden Wing followed in 1978 with balconies on all 158 rooms, and the Valley Wing was added in 1985 as the most private of the three, with its own lobby and a private lift. Fifteen acres of gardens, waterfalls and koi ponds hold them together.
Every year since 2002 the hotel has hosted the Shangri-La Dialogue, the defence summit that gathers ministers from across Asia and beyond. In 2015 Xi Jinping and Ma Ying-jeou met here, the first meeting between leaders of mainland China and Taiwan since 1949. The Garden Wing reopened in 2012 after a renovation, and the Tower Wing was refurbished in 2017. Afternoon tea has been served in The Rose Veranda since 1991.
- The Valley Wing A separate lobby, a private lift and check-in in your room, with breakfast in the Summit Room and a Champagne bar of its own.
- Gardens and pools A pool set among palms and waterfalls, three floodlit tennis courts and CHI, The Spa.
- For children Splash, a water play area with slides and lazy rivers, and buds, an indoor play space, together 3,000 square metres.
