The hotel
I. M. Pei's Raffles City.
Raffles City stands on the old grounds of Raffles Institution, Singapore's first school. I. M. Pei designed the complex, one of his first works in the city, with a shopping mall, a convention centre, an office tower and two hotels. It opened on 3 October 1986. The twin towers of this hotel began life as The Westin Plaza, beside The Westin Stamford, now Swissôtel The Stamford, which was once the tallest hotel in the world.
The name changed to Raffles The Plaza in 2002, and on 12 December 2007 to Fairmont Singapore. The South Tower was renovated in 2019, and all 778 rooms keep their balconies. Underneath, City Hall MRT station connects straight into the building, and a tunnel leads on to Esplanade, so the Padang, the National Gallery and Marina Bay are all a short walk away.
- Willow Stream Spa Twenty-three treatment rooms, two of them couples suites, with a cold plunge pool, steam room and sauna.
- A balcony for every room All 778 rooms and suites have one, from the Fairmont Rooms to the Presidential Suite.
- Two stars upstairs JAAN by Kirk Westaway, two MICHELIN stars, is on the seventieth floor of the sister hotel next door.
