The hotel

Lofts on the roof of the MGM Grand.

The MGM Grand opened in 1993, and in 2005 its top two floors, levels 29 and 30, were turned into something apart from the rest of the building. The designer Tony Chi drew the Skylofts as two-storey apartments, from 1,400 square feet with one bedroom up to 6,000 square feet for the largest, with glass from floor to ceiling looking over the Strip. There are fifty-one of them.

Guests reach them by private lifts to a lobby of their own on the 29th floor. Inside are limestone floors and stairs, Anichini linen and Colombian art. Each bathroom has an infinity-edge tub and a shower with steam, rain and waterfall settings. A butler is assigned to every guest, around the clock, and books the tables and the shows. Both Joël Robuchon restaurants are in the building below.

Getting there

Flying to Las Vegas.

Harry Reid International, for scheduled flights, is about 6 to 10 minutes by car, and the Skylofts can send a Rolls-Royce. Private jets use the FBOs at Harry Reid, or Henderson Executive, about twenty minutes south by our estimate.

Domestic airlines link the city with most of the United States.
