The hotel
A palace rebuilt after the war.
An earlier palace on this side of Piazza della Repubblica was destroyed by bombing in 1943. The present building went up in 1950 and for decades traded as the Palace Hotel of CIGA, the old Compagnia Italiana Grandi Alberghi. Later work gave every floor balconies and lifted the building from ten storeys to twelve, behind a façade of granite and red Aswan marble.
The hotel took the Westin name in the early 2000s and was renovated again in 2019. It sits at the edge of Porta Nuova, near the Bosco Verticale and the Repubblica metro station, about twenty minutes on foot from the Duomo. The rooftop terrace, about 700 square metres on the eighth floor, looks back across the city to the cathedral spires. Below it are 231 rooms and suites and fourteen event rooms.
- The rooftop About 700 square metres on the top floor, with the Duomo spires in view. It can be joined to the outdoor space of the Presidential Suite.
