The hotel
A bank turned hotel, beside the Galleria.
The palazzo on Via Tommaso Grossi went up in the nineteenth century and spent years as a bank. When it became a hotel, only the outer shell was kept. Edward Tuttle redesigned the interior in 2003 in travertine, alabaster and black marble, with octagonal showers of stone and glass and lights blown on Murano. The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is next door, and the Duomo a few steps further on.
In 2022 the hotel reopened after about two years of work that went down to the foundations, with new plumbing and air conditioning throughout. Flaviano Capriotti designed the new restaurant, Pellico 3, beside La Cupola, the lounge under the glass dome. Several suites now open onto terraces over the city, among them the Duomo Suite and the Presidential Suite. The spa, AQVAM, came back too, with a Turkish bath and a jacuzzi in gold mosaic.
- La Cupola The lounge and all-day restaurant under a glass dome about nine metres high, from breakfast through the evening.
- Terrace suites The Terrace Suites, the Duomo Suite and the Presidential Suite all have terraces looking over the rooftops of the centre.
- AQVAM Spa Steam rooms, a Turkish bath and a jacuzzi in gold mosaic, with a Technogym fitness room alongside.
