The hotel
Art Deco at the station.
Carlo Gallia opened the hotel in 1932, an Art Deco palace on Piazza Duca d'Aosta, facing Milano Centrale. It was once known as the Palace Gallia. Its owner, Katara Hospitality of Qatar, paid for a full renovation, and the hotel reopened in May 2015 as Excelsior Hotel Gallia, part of Marriott's Luxury Collection. The Art Deco building was restored, and it now holds 235 rooms, 53 of them suites.
Studio Marco Piva led the work and added a tower of steel and glass beside it, then filled both with more than five hundred pieces of its own design. The seventh floor holds the Katara Suite, about 1,000 square metres with four bedrooms, two terraces and a spa of its own. The Shiseido spa spreads over the sixth and seventh floors, and the pool is on the roof.
- Shiseido Spa Milan About 1,000 square metres over two floors, with a salt cabin, hydrotherapy, saunas, a steam room and a gym. It was the first Shiseido spa in Italy.
- A pool on the roof An indoor pool with a Jacuzzi and views over the city from the top of the hotel.
- Terrazza Gallia The rooftop restaurant and bar on the seventh floor, with Italian cooking and cocktails above the square.
