The hotel
A castle in the city.
The building went up in the early 1900s as apartments, in the Liberty style, the Italian form of Art Nouveau, on Corso Concordia east of the centre. Piazza San Babila is about eight minutes away on foot, and Milano Centrale is three kilometres away. Relais & Châteaux calls it a castello urbano, an urban castle, and in 2013 it joined Relais & Châteaux.
The designer Sofia Gioia Vedani, working with FZI Interiors, took fairy tales and nursery rhymes as the theme for the rooms, with pastel walls, floral motifs and butterflies, and gave the suites the names and moods of famous operas. The furniture was made to measure in Italy. The building also holds the Rubacuori restaurant, a lounge bar and a spa built around a saltwater pool.
- Amore & Psiche The spa, with a saltwater pool, sauna, Turkish bath and emotional showers. It can be booked for private use.
- Mezzanotte The lounge bar, for aperitifs and live music, with La Cella di Bacco as a wine bar alongside.
- Themed rooms Pastel colours, flowers and butterflies, with each room drawn from a fairy tale and each suite from an opera.
