The hotel
A lakefront hotel from 1865.
The Hôtel de la Paix opened on the Quai du Mont-Blanc in 1865. Six years later the United States and Britain brought the Alabama claims to arbitration in Geneva, the first case of its kind, and in September 1872 the State Council gave the closing dinner here. Garibaldi and Victor Hugo stayed; so, in later years, did Grace Kelly, often.
Ritz-Carlton took over the management in 2016, its first hotel in Switzerland, the birthplace of César Ritz. A renovation in phases ended in 2017. The rooms became plainer and lighter, while the lobby, the façade and a parquet floor some 150 years old were kept. The Grace Kelly Suite has Art Deco details and gold leaf.
- On the quay Many rooms look over the lake to the Jet d'Eau and the Alps, and the main shopping streets are about five minutes away on foot.
- FRED Bar Cocktails among contemporary art, a few steps from Fiskebar's open kitchen.
- Dans Le Noir? At weekends, dinner served in complete darkness.
