The hotel
The hotel of the diplomats.
The InterContinental opened in 1964 on the slope of Petit-Saconnex, a short walk from the Palais des Nations and the Botanic Garden. The tower rises eighteen storeys, its front framed in bamboo, and from the upper rooms the view runs over the lake to the Alps. In 1977 Jimmy Carter met Hafez al-Assad here to talk about the Arab and Israeli conflict.
The hotel counts some four hundred heads of state among its guests, and in Geneva it is still the address for delegations. Tony Chi redesigned the rooms and the entrance hall in a calm, modern Japanese style. At the top, The Residence covers nearly 7,000 square feet, with its own hammam and spa room, and can be taken with the rest of the floor.
- Le Fumoir A ventilated cigar lounge with vintage cigars and old rums, next to the cocktails of Les Nations Bar.
- The pool in summer A heated outdoor pool on a shaded deck, with the Poolside restaurant open beside it for the season.
- Spa Cinq Mondes Four treatment rooms, one of them for two, with a hammam, a sauna and a gym open around the clock.
