The hotel
Built for the steamboat age.
When steamboats reached Lake Geneva in 1823, the city decided to rebuild the right bank of the Rhône as its front door. The engineer Guillaume Henri Dufour drew the plan and the Pont des Bergues beside it, and the hotel opened on 1 May 1834, plain and neo-classical, the largest of its kind in Switzerland. The name goes back to Hans Kleberger, a sixteenth-century merchant who owned the land.
An extra floor came in 1917 and a new wing in 1967. In 1920 the Salle des Nations hosted the first assembly of the League of Nations. Four Seasons took over in November 2005, and Pierre-Yves Rochon restored the interiors in the same year, the largest restoration in the building's history. The top three floors now hold Spa Mont Blanc, and the rooftop has a Nikkei restaurant facing Mont Blanc.
- Spa Mont Blanc 2,800 square metres across the top floors, with a 12.5-metre lap pool, a vitality pool, a Moroccan hammam and a marble steam room.
- Izumi on the roof Japanese cooking with Peruvian touches, and a terrace of 45 seats looking at the lake and Mont Blanc.
- The Salle des Nations The room where the League of Nations held its first assembly in 1920, now one of the hotel's event rooms.
