The hotel
A valley the monks knew first.
Monks have come to the Zalaat valley since the twelfth century to study under the sacred Bogd Khan Mountain, and the name is said to come from a Sanskrit phrase for a gift from God. The estate covers 13.8 hectares on the city's edge, close to the Bogd Khan Uul UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Open steppe and hills start where the grounds end.
Mabetex Group developed the hotel for Ayan Hotels & Resorts, and it took its first guests in January 2026. The lobby is clad in marble, with stone made for the building, and the rooms have mountain windows, Erdenet carpets and deep soaking tubs. A resident Buddhist monk keeps the Soma Temple on the grounds. The hotel belongs to The Leading Hotels of the World.
- Ayan Spa Treatments developed with Clinique Nescens of Genolier in Switzerland, with a sauna, a salt room and indoor and outdoor pools.
- Ayan Theater Evenings of khöömei throat singing and Biyelgee folk dance, and talks with the monk at the Soma Temple.
- Rooftop lounge Views across the city and out to the steppe, one of ten places to eat and drink in the hotel.
