The hotel

Kimpton's first step abroad.

Seafire opened in November 2016 as Kimpton's first hotel outside the United States. It was built by Dart, the Cayman developer that also owns The Ritz-Carlton down the beach. Mark Sopp of SB Architects in San Francisco designed the building, and Powerstrip Studio of Los Angeles did the interiors with Kimpton's own design chief, Ave Bradley. The 62 Residences at Seafire stand alongside.

The resort sits on the northern stretch of Seven Mile Beach, and almost all of its 264 rooms and suites look out over the water. Ten years on, Forbes Travel Guide has given the hotel five stars four years running, and the spa three. The MICHELIN Guide gives it one Key, ranking its kitchens with those of an established food city.

Rooms are clean-lined, and most look out to sea or over the yacht club. Suites run from one to three bedrooms, and two bungalows sit on the ground floor.

Getting there

Flying to Grand Cayman.

Owen Roberts International in George Town handles both airline flights and private jets, which clear customs at the General Aviation Terminal. The drive up Seven Mile Beach to Tanager Way takes about twenty minutes, our estimate.

Business & First Class Passenger terminal Cayman Airways, American, Delta, JetBlue, United, Air Canada, WestJet and British Airways serve the island, most of them from the eastern United States and Canada. Miami is little more than an hour away. Request a fare Private Jet General Aviation Terminal Private aircraft use the General Aviation Terminal, where passengers, crew and baggage clear customs; officers do not meet the aircraft. The airport is open from 6 am to 9 pm, and later movements are rarely approved. Slots are mandatory and should be requested at least 48 hours ahead, longer over Christmas, in January, and at Easter, when parking on the apron is tight.
