The hotel
A Georgian house with a sense of humour.
Homewood stands above the village of Freshford, six miles from Bath, looking over the Avon Valley from about twenty acres of gardens and lawns. The house is Georgian, and the hotel calls it part country house, part playground for the curious: bright colours, statement art and no two rooms alike. Bath is about fifteen minutes away by car, and Freshford has its own station on the line into the city.
Ian and Christa Taylor bought the hotel in 2018 and added Mallingford Mews, rooms in the private gardens with interiors chosen by Ian Taylor himself, down to the books and lamps. Homewood is part of Kaleidoscope Hotels and of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World collection. Some vegetables for the kitchen come from a no-dig garden on the estate.
- The spa, in and out An indoor hydrotherapy pool, an outdoor vitality pool, saunas inside and out, a steam room and a bucket shower, with a heated outdoor pool beside.
- Hot tubs of your own Some of the Mews rooms have an outdoor hot tub on a private terrace or balcony.
- For dogs Dogs are welcome, with an agility course and a grooming parlour in the grounds.
