The hotel
A 1960s hotel, given back to Milan.
The Carlton first opened in 1963, in the years of Italy's postwar boom, on a block that runs from Via Senato through to Via della Spiga. Rocco Forte took it over in 2020 and spent five years and some 60 million euros on it. The hotel reopened on 6 November 2025, the group's sixteenth hotel and its second in Milan, with entrances on both streets and a garden in the middle of the block.
Olga Polizzi led the design with Paolo Moschino and Philip Vergeylen, looking back to mid-century Milan and Gio Ponti. The rooms went from 87 to 71 to make space for larger suites, many with terraces. Murano glass lamps from the old bedrooms now light the bar, and the Via della Spiga entrance leads in through a flower shop. In September 2026 the MICHELIN Guide gave it two Keys.
- Cafe Floretta A winter garden under a glass roof, full of plants, for breakfast and an all-day menu.
- Two front doors One on Via Senato for discretion, one on Via della Spiga in the middle of the fashion district.
- Irene Forte Spa Below ground, with three treatment rooms, a nail salon, a sauna, steam room and ice fountain, and a gym.
