The hotel
Hohauser on Collins Avenue.
Henry Hohauser, one of the architects who shaped Miami Beach in the 1930s, designed the Greystone in 1939. The National Register nomination of 1979 called its style Decorative Moderne, and the building counts as part of the Miami Beach Architectural District. It stands on Collins Avenue, a few steps from the sand, among the low Deco hotels of South Beach. Hohauser was named a Great Floridian by the state in 1993.
After a long renovation, the hotel reopened in September 2021 under Salt Hotels. The Art Deco facade was restored. Holly Muhl of Bowenholly did the inside in a modern boutique style, and the penthouse suites have terraces with outdoor showers and hot tubs. Every guest must be 21 or over. Sérêvène, the restaurant, cooks Japanese produce with French technique, and the MICHELIN Guide gave the hotel one Key in 2026.
- The roof A pool and bar above Collins Avenue, with daybeds, cocktails and light plates.
- The beach club Across Collins Avenue, for sun loungers on the sand.
- The Greystone Bar A piano bar in the evening, by candlelight, where guests often end up singing along.
