The hotel

An estancia on the glacier road.

EOLO stands alone on some 4,000 hectares of private land in the La Anita valley, between El Calafate and Los Glaciares National Park. From outside it looks like an old Patagonian estancia, with a touch of Tudor. The house is built around a central garden, and the rooms look out onto the steppe, the lake or the mountains. The rooms are spread over several floors, with no lift.

Inside, the decoration is kept plain so the windows do the work: polished wood, antique washstands, deep baths set under picture windows, and weavings in cream, wine red and dusty green. There are no televisions in the rooms. Afternoon tea is served on the dining terrace, and meals, with the wine poured at them, are included in the stay. The lodge opens from early October to the end of April.

  • Perito Moreno The glacier is about 45 minutes away by car, and ice treks and boat trips on the glacier lakes can be booked through the lodge.
  • On the estate Horse riding, hiking, mountain biking and condor-watching start from the house; fishing and kayaking can be arranged.
  • After a cold day A spa with sauna, hammam, hot tub and an indoor pool.
