The hotel

A hotel built on a dig.

The Price family came to Québec in 1810, when William Price arrived looking for pine for ship masts. In 1992 his descendants opened a small inn of twenty-three rooms in the Chillas warehouse, built in 1822 for a cooper on the river front. Four years later they took in the James Hunt house next door, and in 2003 a new wing went up on what had been a car park.

The ground under it, known as Îlot Hunt, had served as a wharf, then a cannon battery, then a yard for British merchants. Archaeologists from the city and Université Laval began digging in 1988, and roughly seven hundred of their finds, some from the 1600s, are now displayed in the rooms and corridors. The reception desk is made of oak planks about two hundred years old.

  • Objects in every room Each room holds a find from the excavations, from porcelain and glass to wrought iron, chosen and conserved for the hotel.
  • Cinéma Saint-Antoine A private screening room in the hotel, free for families staying in the historically themed rooms.
  • Bar Artefact Cocktails by two fireplaces, with live music on Thursday and Saturday evenings.
