The hotel

A merchant's house at the end of the avenue.

Lucknam Park stands on the southern edge of the Cotswolds above the village of Colerne, about six miles from Bath. The approach is a drive of a mile, lined with more than four hundred lime and beech trees. The Palladian house at the end is thought to have been built for James Wallis, a Bristol merchant, and seven families owned it before it became a hotel.

The estate still runs to about 500 acres of park and woodland. There are stables and an equestrian centre, a spa in the old walled garden, tennis courts and trails through the woods. The hotel has since joined Accor's Emblems Collection. Its dining room was refurbished for 2026, and Hywel Jones, the executive chef, kept his MICHELIN star for a twenty-first year.

  • Riding An equestrian centre on the estate, with rides out along the woodland trails.
  • The spa A 20-metre indoor pool, an indoor and outdoor hydrotherapy pool and thermal cabins, in the walled garden.
  • Estate sports Archery, clay pigeon shooting, tennis and a five-a-side football pitch.
