The hotel
The archbishops' lodge on the Fuschlsee.
The Prince-Archbishops of Salzburg built the lodge in 1461 for hunting in the forests around the Fuschlsee, a clear lake in the Salzkammergut. Centuries later it became a hotel, tied closely to the Salzburg Festival, held each summer in the city twenty-odd kilometres away. Audrey Hepburn and Richard Nixon stayed, and in the 1950s parts of the Sissi films with Romy Schneider were shot here.
Rosewood took over and reopened the castle in June 2024 after a full renovation, with interiors by G.A Group and Bauer Stahl. About a hundred works from the owning family's collection hang inside, and the artist Marie Hartig painted the minibars and the walls of the bar by hand. Below, the castle's fishery has worked the lake since 1987, and char from the Fuschlsee goes straight to the kitchens.
- Asaya Spa 1,500 square metres with indoor and outdoor infinity pools facing the forest, three saunas, a steam bath and eight treatment rooms.
- The lake Swimming from a wooden jetty in summer, a beach club on the shore and guided fishing trips with the castle's fishery.
- Arrival by air The castle has its own helipad, and the concierge books helicopter charters and chauffeur cars, vintage Rolls-Royce included.
