The hotel

A hotel the size of a village.

In 1953 the hotelier Robert Wolf bought a château on the cliff at Èze, halfway between Nice and Monte-Carlo, meaning to open a restaurant. Walt Disney stayed with his daughter and told him to make it a hotel. The owners then bought most of the village houses around it, until the hotel reached its present 45 rooms. Today it belongs to Relais & Châteaux.

So the rooms are scattered along the lanes, some facing the sea, others the mountains. The restaurant won its first MICHELIN star in 1978 under Elie Mazot and its second in 2000 under Jean-Marc Delacourt. Guests over the years have included Elizabeth Taylor, Roger Moore, Clint Eastwood and Bono. Executive chef Tom Meyer, a Meilleur Ouvrier de France, now runs all three restaurants. In September 2026 the guide raised the hotel to three Keys.

  • The view from the top The dining room sits at the highest point of the hotel, looking along the coast from Monte-Carlo towards Saint-Tropez.
  • Pools on the terraces Two pools cut into the hillside gardens below the hotel, open in season.
  • One kitchen team Tom Meyer, Meilleur Ouvrier de France, runs all three restaurants, with desserts by Florent Margaillan.
