The hotel
Golf beside the River Plate.
The resort was first presented in 2001, when Colonia Natural, a group of Argentine and Uruguayan investors, agreed to build it with Starwood under the Sheraton name. It opened in December 2005 with 92 rooms, planned around a golf course on the edge of the river. A second wing was drawn up and never built, and the hotel has 105 rooms today, spread over four floors.
It stands on the extension of the Rambla de las Américas at Real de San Carlos, facing the river, a short drive from the historic centre of Colonia. Sheraton passed to Marriott in 2016. In August 2026 the owners put the complex up for sale; the press reported that the hotel keeps trading as a Sheraton, under Marriott, in the meantime.

- Arrival Check-in from 3 pm, check-out by 11 am. The person checking in must be 18 or over. Parking is free.
- Pets Not accepted, except service animals.
- Transfers The hotel runs no airport transfer, so a car should be booked ahead.
- Ownership The resort was put up for sale in August 2026. We check the latest position with the hotel when we book.
Getting there
Flying to Colonia del Sacramento.
Montevideo Carrasco, the airport for long-haul flights, is about 177 kilometres away, roughly two and a half hours by car by our estimate. Larger private jets also land at Carrasco; light aircraft can use Laguna de los Patos, 9 kilometres from Colonia, by day. Many guests fly to Buenos Aires instead and cross the river by ferry in about an hour and a half.

- By ferry across the Río de la Plata: Buquebus, Colonia Express and Seacat Colonia take about an hour and a half, then a short drive to the hotel.
